Australia’s Healthy Weight Week (AHWW) is a nationwide initiative put on by the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) which will run from February 13-19. The campaign aims to promote healthy eating and lifestyles, the perfect inspiration for those wishing to improve their diet! Now in its 10th year, AHWW continues to tackle the issues of obesity that pervade Australia.

According to the DAA studies, “young Australians… have the worst vegetable intake in Australia’, and tend to follow dieting fads rather than improving their eating through paying attention to the portion size and healthier meals. The DAA wishes to encourage young Australians to get off the dieting merry-go round in 2017.”

Community members are encouraged to get involved in local events that are all geared towards educating people on how to live healthier lives. There will be a launch event at Pitt Street Mall in Sydney Monday February 13. This will feature a cooking demonstration by the award-winning celebrity chef, Callum Hann, and accredited practising dietician, Themis Chryssidis. Together they will focus on how to prepare and cook healthy meals for families.

In keeping with the health initiative, Wahroonga’s Fox Valley Medical and Dental Care will run a week-long stall promoting healthy food choices and portion control. The initiative will also be accessible online, with a free AHWW available for download, and an Instagram competition where participants are encouraged to post pictures of their healthy meals.

Individuals are also free to host their own events, and can register online. These could include staff events for workplaces, a cooking demonstration, exercise activity or small group education.
